Workshop Description:
Persistent upper limb problems, especially in the shoulder, can be tricky to deal with when looked at in isolation. However, when we understand the interplay between the local upper quadrant & the global body, suddenly things come into focus in an entirely new way.
Join Joanne Elphinston as she guides you through an enlightening & highly interactive workshop where you will be introduced to the upper limb factors that rapidly change the game for so many patients.
This is natural function, how the whole body comes together to create optimal upper limb movement, & how even our minds & emotions can influence our mechanics.
This is how we address those persistent issues that keep coming back, by getting to the root of why that structure is under pressure.
It is a world away from scapular setting & theraband exercises – this is functional force management, the ways in which we create and control forces in our upper quadrant for optimal support, strength & dexterity.
This is understanding global fascial relationships, & how to talk to the brain to achieve rapid change on motor mapping.
This is giving them wings.

Beginning her professional journey over thirty years ago as a physiotherapist & coach, Joanne Elphinston is a movement philosopher, performance consultant & international lecturer in rehabilitation & movement.
From her wide ranging work in elite sport & the performing arts, to her continued clinical interest in chronic & complex presentations, Joanne’s path of inquiry lies in what connects us in the deeply human experience of movement.
Joanne is the creator of the JEMS? approach, a holistic but meticulously clinically reasoned method for integrating the science & the art of clinical practice.
Through two decades of prolific teaching across multiple countries, Joanne’s work is now used by practitioners in a wide array of clinical settings, from paediatrics, neurology & falls prevention through to hypermobility & sports performance, and her work has underpinned an array of research projects in Sweden.
Joanne’s books, including “Stability, Sport and Performance Movement”, have been translated into a number of languages. Her most recent book, “The Power and the Grace: A Professional’s Guide to Ease and Efficiency in Functional Movement”, is now available from Handspring Publishing.
